Snacks and Treats

Foods Offered at LCNS

LCNS provides students with a variety of nut-free foods and water. All foods provided at LCNS are store-bought and must have an ingredient label. Foods are selected and served in accordance with Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) requirements.

Everyday Snacks

Snacks offered at LCNS may include:

• Fruits and vegetables
• Cheese and cheese sticks
• Yogurt
• Crackers
• Applesauce
• Frozen juice bars

Birthday Treats

We have much to celebrate! Families are welcome to send in a birthday treat for their child’s class. To help us maintain a safe and consistent environment for all students, birthday treats must be store-bought, nut-free, and have an ingredient label attached. The package cannot state that the food is “processed or manufactured in a facility that may contain nuts” or similar language.

Approved birthday treats include:

• Abe’s allergy-friendly cupcakes or muffins
• Chips Ahoy Chocolate Chip Cookies
• Nabisco Oreo Cookies
• Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treats
• Frozen juice bars
• Individual ice cream cups
• Fruits and vegetables (uncut and unwashed, in original packaging; LCNS staff will prepare)
• Cheese sticks
